The 91次元 uses to deliver mass notifications and safety alerts. These messages provide campus community members and visitors with timely information about immediate threats or other important situations so they can take steps to protect themselves.
UMPD may issue one of three types of alerts, depending on the situation:
Emergency Notification
A UM Emergency Notification is sent via text and email when a significant emergency or dangerous situation on the UM campus poses an imminent or immediate threat. These messages include:
- A description of what type of incident is occurring
- The location(s) that the incident is taking place
- Any recommended Standard Response Protocol (SRP)
Timely Warning
A UM Timely Warning is sent via text and email in response to Clery Act crimes that have already occurred but present a serious or ongoing threat to students or employees.
These messages:
- Summarize the incident
- Provide recommended safety tips
Public Service Announcement
A UM Public Service Announcement is sent via e-mail with an option to be sent as a text message. These notices are for non-Clery reportable activity occurring on campus or non-campus property. Notices are sent at the university's discretion depending upon the need to inform the UM community for safety reasons that do not meet the Emergency Notification or Timely Warning requirements. These may include but are not limited to:
- Power outages
- Network or service outages
- Loss of steam/heating
