Online Only Cost of Attendance (COA)
A student's Cost of Attendance (COA) is determined by their enrollment status each semester. When initial award offers are made, it is assumed that undergraduates will be enrolled in 12 or more credits each semester and graduate students will be enrolled in 9 to 11 credits each semester. The COA is adjusted to reflect a student's actual enrollment status during the final review process.
Online-Only Student Status
Students who intend to enroll only in online courses may opt to change their student status to Online-Only. Because online-only students are charged different fee rates, they have a separate Cost of Attendance. Please visit UM's Online-Only Status webpage for more information.
Online Only Estimated Summary of Costs
The estimated summaries of the total COA of In-State and Out-of-State listed in the tables below are for a typical academic year (fall semester and spring semester). The summary costs also reflect the cost of living in university residence halls and having a university dining plan.
Direct costs are items that will appear on the University bills, such as tuition, fees, books, and housing and meals (if living on campus).
Indirect costs will not appear on the bill but are estimated costs associated with going to college and should be included in the budget. These include items like transportation and personal expenses.
