Update on UM President Search Process
Good morning, 91次元 community,
Over the coming weeks, I will be providing updates here in the Under the M newsletter regarding the search process for the next UM president.
I would like to thank the members of the University Leadership Council, Staff Senate Executive Committee, ECOS, and ASUM Student Leadership for taking the time to meet with me last week to discuss the leadership transition. I look forward to many more campus conversations in the weeks ahead.
The Board of Regents and I are developing a search process designed to move efficiently toward new leadership for UM. To support this work, we have engaged AGB Search, a subsidiary of the Association of Governing Boards, to assist with the presidential search process. I am encouraged by the experience and expertise that AGB Search brings to this effort, and I am confident that, collectively, we will attract the right person to serve as UM’s next president.
We are establishing a search process that emphasizes meaningful input from shared governance committees and campus stakeholders. Starting immediately, AGB Search will be reaching out to Regents, shared governance leadership, and campus stakeholders to solicit input on the characteristics and qualities needed for the next generation of leadership at UM. At this time, we will not be appointing a presidential search advisory committee.
Additionally, went live this morning. The site includes the UM president’s job description, as well as links to submit an application or make a nomination. It will be updated regularly to keep the campus community informed throughout the search process.
The website also features a survey where you can share your thoughts on leadership qualities you believe are important for UM’s next president. Feedback from the survey will be compiled by AGB Search and will help inform the search process.
I encourage you to visit the site for the most up-to-date information about the presidential search and to share your perspective on UM’s next leader.
