A Legacy of Patriotic Statesmanship
Founded by an Act of Congress in 1983, the Mansfield Center fosters globally minded leaders of integrity. We are the sole Rural West nonpartisan institution supporting youth and communities through civic and international education guided by the Mansfield Legacy of ethical leadership, civic responsibility, respect for the U.S. Constitution, and an unconditional commitment to the public good.聽
As the Semiquincentennial approaches, this historic moment offers an exceptional opportunity to reflect on the principles that shaped the nation's founding and to examine how those principles have evolved and been reaffirmed across American history. Montana Senator Mike Mansfield鈥檚 profound love of country and commitment to its ideals are an inspiration to rural youth. Mansfield viewed patriotism as a call to service, shaped by his upbringing in rural Montana, his service in three branches of the military, his work in the Montana copper mines, and his role as the longest-serving Senate Majority Leader in U.S. history. As an independent academic unit of the 91次元, our civic institute is dedicated to civic thought, constitutional studies, American history, leadership, global challenges, and academic liberty.聽

Strengthening Democracy
A Way Forward — Examine the role that ethical values can and should play in public life, the moral quandaries faced by those who govern, and the issues of leadership and character in public service.
