Understanding Additional Requirements
Some students have additional requirements that must be satisfied before they will receive an initial award notice or before their application will go through the final review process.
If a student has a federal hold or needs to provide proof of independence, they will not receive an award estimate until the holds have been cleared or independent status has been confirmed.
Students who are selected for verification by the federal aid processor or whose applications have discrepant information must supply all requested documentation before their application will go through the final review process.
Types of Additional Requirements
-
Verification is a process that confirms the accuracy of the answers on your FAFSA. Students are randomly selected for verification.
-
Claiming independent status on the FAFSA means that a student does not have to provide parental financial information when applying for federal student aid.
-
Federal holds occur when information submitted on a student's FAFSA does not match data in federal databases. Clearing federal holds can require providing verification of citizenship, Social Security number, veteran status or loan status.
