Evaluation Process Update
Beginning Summer 2025, course evaluations will be conducted through the University's Qualtrics system. We are currently updating and refining our procedures to better align with evolving needs and priorities. Thank you for your patience as we finalize these improvements!

About Course Evaluations
According to CBA 10.220, every faculty member must have at least one course evaluated each semester. These evaluations are used by the Student Evaluation Committee (CBA 10.230) and may be referenced during the Faculty Evaluation process.
Course evaluations using the UFA–Administration Committee system are overseen by the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. Not all units use this system. Faculty should check with their department chair or program director to confirm which evaluation system their unit follows.
Fall 2025 Survey Customization
For the Fall 2025 course evaluation cycle, each academic unit must review the template survey and complete a short set of customization tasks. This ensures that all required questions are included and unit-specific needs are addressed.
What units need to do:

Review the required questions in the provided template.

List all course rubrics taught in the unit, including any shared with other departments.

Choose up to three additional questions to add to the survey. Questions should be in Likert scale, multiple choice, yes/no, or open-ended format. Note: customization happens at the unit level, not for individual faculty.

Submit final unit-level customizations to the Provost’s Office by October 3.
Surveys will be created in the order they are received. Units with part-of-term courses will be prioritized.
Units may also choose to create their own survey in Qualtrics (CBA 10.230). If your unit takes this option, please notify the Office of the Provost so support can be provided.

Archives
Qualtrics Archived Evaluations (Fall 2022 - Spring 2025):
Our license with Qualtrics Course Feedback Surveys, a system separate from the university-wide system used for research purposes, has ended, and these evaluations have been archived. If you need to retrieve an evaluation from this period, please contact the course evaluation administrator for your department.
Archived Evaluations (Fall 2020 - Fall 2022):
Our license with Blue Course Evaluations has ended, and these evaluations have been archived. If you need to retrieve an evaluation from this period, please email course.evaluations@umontana.edu.
Optional Submission of Evaluations:
At the request of the UFA and the MCFA, the Office of the Provost has made the submission of university-sponsored course evaluation reports from Blue and Qualtrics optional for the 2022-2023 academic year and Spring 2020. Faculty members undergoing evaluation are encouraged to note this in their IPR.
