Academic Misconduct Resources for Faculty
Student Code of Conduct
Procedures defining student Academic Rights and Responsibilities and Academic Conduct are outlined in the Student Code of Conduct.
This Code of Conduct embodies and promotes honesty, integrity, accountability, and duties associated with citizenship as a student in our community at the 91次元. This Code exists to protect the interests of the community and dignity of its members, and to challenge those behaviors which are not in accordance with our policies. This Code describes expected standards of behavior for all students, including academic conduct and general conduct, and it outlines students’ rights, responsibilities, and the campus processes for adjudicating alleged violations.
Faculty are essential in modeling academic responsibility, addressing academic misconduct, and working towards resolutions that encourage student learning.
What to Do If You Discover a Case of Academic Misconduct
The Office of the Provost is here to support faculty as they navigate the Academic Misconduct process. The key players in any misconduct case are:
- The reporting instructor and responding student(s);
- The instructor's chair can provide support in the investigation;
- The instructor’s dean, who is the first line of appeal on all sanctions and serves as the hearing officer for academic sanctions. The dean represents the university cases that rise to the level of university sanctions. The graduate dean may be engaged as well.
- The Assistant Vice Provost for Operations and Communication, Josh Flores Groomer serves as the Academic Misconduct Case manager, ensuring communications and procedures are followed.
- The Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, John DeBoer, serves as the hearing officer for all misconduct cases that rise to the level of a university sanction or appeal.
If you suspect a student has engaged in academic misconduct, take the following actions and use the provided for communication:
- Review Article IV: Proscribed Academic Conduct, Section 4.1: Procedures for Academic Misconduct in the Student Code of Conduct.
- Investigate and document the incident using the system.
- Consult with your department chair.
- Contact the student within ten (10) working days to arrange a meeting.
- Inform the student of your findings and their rights under the Student Code of Conduct.
- If a suspected case of academic misconduct involves a significant number of students (for example, over five students sharing test materials), contact the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs immediately.
