Winter Break Housing
The Residence Halls will close at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
UM Housing offers Winter Break Housing for residents who need to remain on campus during the break. If you require housing over Winter Break, you must submit a Winter Break Housing Application through your myHousingPortal. The application will be available starting October 21, 2025.
Available Dates
- The Residence Halls close at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025, and reopen at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026.
- Winter Break Housing is available only to residents living in the Residence Halls for the Fall and/or Spring Semester.
Important Details:
- New Spring residents may begin submitting Winter Break Housing requests on December 2, 2025. Housing for new Spring students begins January 2, 2026.
- Fall residents not returning for Spring may stay no later than December 17, 2025.
- Fall residents returning for Spring may:
- Stay for the entire break.
- Stay only at the beginning of the break.
- Return early before Spring semester begins.
- All stays must be requested through the Winter Break Housing Application.
- Students who have not made arrangements to stay for winter break are not permitted to stay in or access their building or room. Any student attempting to stay in or access their room during the break period without making proper arrangements will be charged for staying the entire break and may face additional fines and a referral to the student conduct process.
Deadline to Apply
Fall residents requesting to stay past December 13 or for the entire break must submit their application by 5:00 p.m. on December 5, 2025 to avoid a $40 late arrangement fee and potential lockout after the halls close.
Residents who fail to properly register for Winter Break or remain on-site past closing without prior approval will be assessed a $100 penalty fee.
Outdoor Access
Griz Card access for Fall residents will expire at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
Access for Spring Semester will be activated when the halls reopen at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026.
Rates

| 15 or more consecutive nights | Flat rate of $350.00 (covers entire break) |
| More than 14 nights non-consecutive | $25.00 per night |
Winter Break Housing charges will be billed to your student account starting the week of December 15 th and will be assessed as additional housing requests are processed. Rates are calculated based on the number of nights requested.
Charges will also be assessed if it is determined that a resident accessed the Residence Halls during the break period (December 13, 2025 – January 12, 2026) without submitting a request.
