Montana’s diverse human and natural landscapes provide unique opportunities to study growing mountain communities and the challenges they both pose and face. The Geography program at the 91次元 offers undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to study geography, community and environmental planning, and cartography and GIS. You will learn how to acquire and analyze diverse types of data to answer pressing questions that affect places and regions. You will also develop strong communication and leadership skills and learn how to use these to help communities navigate their futures.

The interdisciplinary Mountain Studies minor will help you develop the knowledge and skills to better promote and integrate sustainability and community-related values through the geographic study of social, economic, cultural, environmental and geopolitical issues of mountainous places and regions. In addition to coursework, your studies will include mountain-focused study abroad, internships and other experiential learning opportunities.

Earn a minor in Wilderness Studies through the Wilderness and Civilization program. In this semester-long field and campus-based program, you'll spend 30 days in the field, learning about wilderness and land ethics; engaging with conservation advocates, land managers, tribal leaders, and innovative landowners; acquiring valuable skills in ecological monitoring, backcountry travel, landscape art, and nature writing; and developing a sense of place and community through study and exploration with a small group of like-minded students.

Students can earn a B.S. or M.S. in Wildlife Biology or a PhD in Fish & Wildlife Biology. Focus on ecology, population biology, wildlife biology, and critical thinking and quantitative skills so you can become a leader in bringing science to the dynamic management of wildlife and fish populations and their habitat, communities, and ecosystems.
