The B.S. in Environmental Science and Sustainability (ESS) connects science and practice, so you graduate with the knowledge and skills to solve complex environmental problems and advance sustainability. As an ESS student, you can specialize in ecosystem science and restoration, environmental policy and planning, climate science and environmental change, sustainable livelihoods and communities, water resources, or use the highly flexible resource conservation option to design your own emphasis. ESS provides an innovative, interdisciplinary education focused on environmental science and a range of problem-solving skills designed to prepare students for careers in this growing field. ESS students work with leading scientists and utilize the amazing outdoor classroom of Western Montana whenever possible.

The Forestry degree is a professional program of study accredited by the Society of American Foresters. Accreditation assures students and employers that graduates with a BS in Forestry from UM have the education and technical training necessary to qualify as a professional forester. At UM, we practice and teach conservation forestry, which is the active management of forested land for a wide range of social and ecological goals.

The 91次元’s Wildlife Biology Program provides students with an extensive knowledge of ecology, population biology, wildlife biology and critical thinking and quantitative skills. Our students become leaders, bringing science to the dynamic management of wildlife and fish populations and their habitat, communities, and ecosystems. The Wildlife Biology Program is a joint program with the W.A. Franke College of Forestry and Conservation, Division of Biological Sciences, and the Montana Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit.
