Plan-your-writing Workshops
At the beginning of each semester and summer session the Writing Center offers a planning workshop to help you build a writing plan. Join us to learn strategies for goal-setting and scheduling to help you reach your writing goals.
- Plan-your-writing IN PERSON workshop. Tuesday, September 9, 12-1pm (with 30 minutes for questions and discussion) in the Theta Rho Room (4th floor) of the Mansfield Library.
- Plan-your-writing ONLINE workshop. Tuesday, September 9, 5-6pm (with 30 minutes for questions and discussion) via zoom.

Join fellow graduate students for three days of online or in-person drop-in WRITE-INs, 9am-12pm August 19, 20 and 21 in the Writing Center (Mansfield Library, room 322). Come when you can; stay as long as you are able. We provide quiet writing space and a snack basket to keep you fueled up. Writing Center Associate Director Catherine Filardi facilitates and will be available to provide individual support as needed. is encouraged but not required. Bring a friend!
Tuesdays in October: Writing Strategies for Graduate Students
Join presenters from the Writing Center and the Mansfield Library for a addressing specific challenges of writing and research in graduate school, and providing tips and strategies for becoming a stronger, more organized and productive writer.
- . Strategies for managing your writing process and staying organized. Join us for a presentation and discussion on challenges of writing in graduate school, steps to making good writing decisions, the merits of a writing schedule, and tips on how to keep your research and readings organized.
- Strategies for finding, analyzing and using sources. Join us for the first of two workshops on literature reviews. This first workshop discusses the purpose and process of a lit review, including effective search strategies, ways to keep track of what you’re reading, using patterns to build an argument, and how to make sense of the chaos!
- . Strategies for organizing and synthesizing your research. Join us for the second of two workshops on literature reviews. This workshop will move from process to product, diving into the structure of a lit review. Topics covered will include strategies for synthesizing information, pointing out gaps in the literature, bringing in your voice, and identifying organizational patterns.
- Strategies for writing journal articles and exploring publication options. Join us for an overview of manuscript preparation and the publication process. We will discuss often-confusing online publication options including Open Access and copyright issues that may come up as you prepare to publish your research.
We are hosting both in-person and online versions of each workshop. All workshops will take place on Tuesdays, with the in-person workshop from 12-1pm and the online workshop from 5-6pm. An additional half-hour will be available for questions and discussion after each workshop. Zoom link will be shared with registrants via email prior to the online workshops. .
