Incident Exposure Reporting

When To Report An Injury

  • Needle sicks or sharps injuries 
  • Allergic reactions to animals 
  • Injuries while handling or transporting animals 
  • Zoonotic disease exposures 
  • Exposure to human blood, tissue or other potentially infectious material (OPIM)  
  • Eye, skin, or mucous membrane exposure 
  • Animal bites or scratches 

Steps To Take 

  1. Analyze severity 
    • If the injury is a medical emergency, call 911 immediately, or render first aid. 
  2. Flush wound 
    • Flush the affected area with soap and water for 15 minutes.
  3. Notify 
    • Notify the Principle Investigator (PI)/Supervisor and the Biosafety Officer. 
  4. Seek medical attention if necessary 
    • During business hours, visit Curry Health Center, primary care provider or local urgent care. 
    • After business hours - go to the nearest ER or call 911 or UM police (406)243-4000
  5. Complete a FROI 
    • Complete the
