Adverse Event Reporting for Wildlife Research
- Researchers must promptly report any unexpected outcomes, injuries, illnesses, or mortalities that occur during wildlife field research to the UM IACUC and/or the Attending Veterinarian.
- Reportable events include, but are not limited to:
- Capture-related injuries or deaths.
- Injury or mortality of Non-target species capture.
- Unintended stress or disturbance to non-target species.
- Equipment failure leading to harm (e.g., traps, telemetry collars, tracking devices).
- Environmental hazards that impact animal welfare (e.g., extreme weather, equipment failure).
- Any deviation from approved procedures that affects animal well-being.
- Reports should be submitted as soon as possible (within 24 hours) using the IACUC Adverse Event Report Form.
- The IACUC and Attending Veterinarian will review events to determine whether corrective action, protocol modification, or additional training is required.
