Faculty Activity Reporting (FAR)
A new way to simplify faculty reporting
Starting January 2026, UM faculty will use the Faculty Activity Reporting (FAR) system to manage professional activities in one place. FAR makes it easier to record and share your teaching, research, and service — while also powering your Individual Performance Record (IPR) and public UM Impact profile.
Why This Matters
Until now, activity reporting has been scattered across forms, spreadsheets, and systems. FAR brings everything together, saving time and giving faculty more control.
With FAR, you can:
- Save time – Core teaching and advising data will be pre-loaded for you from Banner.
- Stay consistent – One Individual Performance Record works across evaluations, sabbatical requests, and more.
- Show your impact – Your FAR entries flow directly into your UM Impact profile, giving you a public presence to highlight your scholarship and service.
- Build your record – FAR grows with you throughout your UM career, making CV updates simpler than ever.
What Will Be in FAR
From Banner (automatically loaded for all faculty):
- Course enrollments
- Advising loads
- Graduate committees
From UM Impact:
A one-time data transfer brought in research, grants, service, and awards for faculty who have used UM Impact. If you did not previously use UM Impact, your record may not contain this information.
Going forward:
- FAR will be the system of record for new research, creative work, grants, service, and awards.
- Select entries will flow from FAR into UM Impact to keep your public profile up to date.
Getting Started
- Overview session: Friday, November 7, 2025, 12:00–1:00 PM via Zoom (led by Interfolio).
- This session will be recorded for those unable to attend.
- Resources: Quick-start guides, recorded demos, and drop-in help sessions will be available this fall.
- Full launch: January 2026 – faculty begin using FAR for evaluations and other processes.
Questions We鈥檝e Heard
Will this mean more work?
Not really. FAR reduces duplicate entry. Core teaching and advising data are pre-loaded, and once you enter research or service information in FAR, it also updates UM Impact.
Can I use FAR to create my IPR and/or CV?
Yes. FAR generates an Individual Performance Record or CV directly from your data. Faculty will have the option to use a standardized template or use a customized option it to meet their individual needs.
How does FAR connect with UM Impact?
Select research and creative scholarship entries from FAR flow into UM Impact, keeping your public faculty profile up to date without extra work.
