About the Veterans Law Group (VLG)
The Veterans Law Group (VLG) at the 91次元 School of Law is an independent student organization dedicated to supporting, advocating for, and empowering military Veterans within the law school and the wider Montana legal community. Re-founded in 2025 by student Veterans, VLG serves as a bridge between academic life and service, providing mentorship, professional development, and a sense of belonging for those who have served—and for their allies who stand beside them.
VLG strengthens the Veteran voice in legal education and public service through advocacy, outreach, and collaboration with local, state, and national partners. From educational programming and policy engagement to community service projects and the annual Veterans Golf Scramble, the group embodies the principles of leadership, integrity, and stewardship that define Montana’s Veteran community.
VLG operates with both independence and accountability, guided by its bylaws, open meeting standards, and student-led leadership structure. Its Officers—Commander, Executive Officer, and Staff Officers—ensure transparency, mission alignment, and continued service to the University and greater Missoula community.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Veterans Law Group is to support, advocate for, and build community among military Veterans and their allies at the 91次元 School of Law and throughout the Montana legal community. VLG seeks to empower Veterans in their legal education, promote awareness of Veterans’ legal issues, and foster service-oriented leadership through mentorship, public service, and policy engagement.
VLG’s mission reflects three enduring commitments:
- Empowerment: Equipping Veteran law students with the tools, mentorship, and community to succeed in the legal profession.
- Advocacy: Advancing understanding and solutions for legal issues affecting Veterans, military families, and service-connected communities.
- Service: Strengthening Montana’s communities through outreach, civic engagement, and leadership rooted in the ethic of continued service.
