Kless Fund Ultra-Low Freezer and Water Bottle Fill Station Rebate Program
Ultra-Low Temperature Freezers
The Kless Committee designates聽$25,000 from the Large Project Fund to replace old Ultra Low Temperature (ULT) Freezers to support the Green Labs Program.
Replacing an old ultra-low temperature (ULT) freezer in your research lab improves energy efficiency, reduces operating costs, and enhances reliability for sample storage. Newer models use up to 50% less energy, generate less heat, and are less prone to failures, ensuring the long-term security of valuable research materials.聽
The Kless Sustainability Fund will award a $3,500 rebate for ULT freezers needing a replacement. Priority given to freezers older than 10 years.
Apply for a rebate for your ULT freezer today! Requests must meet the following guidelines to be approved:
- You are replacing an old freezer, not just purchasing a new one
- You will purchase your new freezer from a state-approved vendor with an Energy Star certification or, if not officially certified, one that is equivalent in energy savings (usually under 9.4 kwh/day at -80掳C)
- Your freezer must be properly decontaminated in preparation for recycling
- Your old freezer will be recycled properly, not sent to another lab or area of campus
To apply for this funding, please fill out the link below. Rebates are available on a rolling first-come, first-served basis until program funds are exhausted. Once approved, you will need to purchase and install the freezer upfront, with Kless transferring a rebate once the old freezer has been recycled.
Water Bottle Fill Stations
The Kless Committee is designating $10,000 from the Large Project Fund this spring to install water bottle fill stations around campus.
Replacing old drinking fountains with water bottle fill stations reduces plastic waste, improves water access, and promotes hydration on campus. Modern bottle fillers are more hygienic, faster, and equipped with filters that improve water quality. With $10,000 in funding available this semester, upgrading ensures a more sustainable and convenient way for students and staff to refill their bottles while reducing reliance on disposable plastics.
Apply for funding for a water bottle fill station today! Requests that meet the following stipulations will be prioritized:
- The location of the filler station is approved by the campus plumber, Luke Woodward
- In a building where there are few or no existing water bottle stations, specifically in a high-trafficked area
- Approval is received from Facilities Services on a funding match for the labor/installation for state-owned buildings. Auxiliary buildings must provide their own match.
To apply for Kless funding, please fill out the Kless Fund proposal on or before March 14th, 2025 at the link below.
