Peer Institutions
The University Assessment and Accreditation Committee developed a list of regional and national peers using our Key Performance Indicators, Carnegie Classifications, and mission-focused metrics. The peer list is:

- South Dakota State University
- University of Colorado, Colorado Springs
- University of Idaho
- University of Louisville
- University of Maine
- University of Maryland-Baltimore County
- University of Northern Colorado
- University of Wyoming
- Wright State University-Main Campus
Other external entities, such as and the , also have defined lists of UM peers based on various data points. Units within UM (e.g., Athletics, Admissions) may also use different sets of peer lists for their narrower purposes.
