Flexible Living Options
UM Housing offers a variety of Flexible Living Options to meet the needs of students living on campus. These options provide more choice in roommate assignments, suite styles, and community configurations.Age Restricted and Upper-Division Housing
Designed for students who have completed at least 24 semester credits or will be 19 or older by move-in and are in good academic standing, this option offers a more independent living experience.

Located on three designated floors in Pantzer Hall

Suite-style units with shared living spaces

Community of peers further along in their academic journey
Co-Ed by Room Housing
In this community, rooms are designated male and female and are interspersed throughout the floor in a checkerboard pattern rather than separated by wing or floor.

Located in designated wings in Knowles Hall

Each wing includes:

Communal sink and mirror area

Individual shower and toilet rooms with floor-to-ceiling privacy

Students must opt in to this community - no student will be placed here unless they have requested to live here
Open Assignment Communities
This opt-in community allows students to live in a space where roommate assignments are made without regard to sex, and is open to all students who specifically request this living arrangement.

Located in designated wings in Knowles Hall and in select 4-person suites in Pantzer Hall

Each Knowles wing includes:

Each Pantzer suite includes:

Four single rooms

Two single occupancy bathrooms

Roommate pairings are based on student preferences, not sex

Students must opt in to this community - no student will be placed here unless they have requested to live here
To Change Application Preferences
Interest in a Flexible Living Option can be indicated in your housing application. Students can update their housing preferences in the myHousingPortal until room selection closes.

Room selection for the upcoming fall typically begins in March/April of the preceding spring

After room selection ends, changes must be requested through the Housing Office
