The Voice of the Faculty

The Faculty Senate plays a central role in ensuring meaningful faculty participation in the shared governance of the 91次元. Through thoughtful review, open debate, and informed voting, the Senate addresses matters that impact the academic integrity and overall welfare of the institution, working in collaboration with the President and university administration.

Faculty, as integral members of the University community, are deeply invested in upholding academic excellence and supporting the institution's broader mission. Committee service offers a valuable opportunity to foster collegiality, contribute to shared goals, and strengthen the academic foundation of the University. By drawing on the expertise of the professorate, the University benefits from informed decision-making and a stronger sense of shared purpose. Active faculty engagement on standing and ad hoc committees is essential to advancing our collective success.聽

Past Chair Christina G. Yoshimura leads the Graduation Procession

The Faculty Senate Chair holds the honor of carrying the University mace during commencement ceremonies, symbolizing the role of the faculty in academic leadership. In addition to this ceremonial duty, the Chair represents 91次元 faculty in several key capacities, including the Board of Regents, the Montana University System Faculty Association Representatives (MUSFAR), the University Budget Committee, the President's Cabinet, and the University Planning Committee. The Chair also participates in regular meetings with the University administration.  


Faculty are encouraged to contact the Faculty Senate Chair with any concerns or matters they believe should be brought forward to the Senate for consideration.
