The External Scholarships and Fellowships Committee plays important roles in the outreach, recruitment, and mentorship of UM scholarship applicants. We welcome any faculty or staff who are interested in supporting the academic, professional, and personal development of UM students and alumni. Experience with specific awards is not necessary.
If you are interested in joining the committee or have questions for the committee, please contact the Committee Chair.
Committee Scope
Each subcommittee meets in alignment with the scholarship deadline. Work on this committee generally includes reading applications, meeting and/or interviewing applicants, providing feedback to applicants, and 1:1 mentoring of applicants. The average commitment is 20-30 hours, typically over three months. Additionally, the full committee meets once a year towards the end of the spring semester. The chair provides resources to support your understanding of the award's purpose and the evaluation of applicants. Members are asked to serve a minimum of three years, if possible.
