Online Course Development Stipend
The Office of Educational Initiatives and Innovation (EII) has created an Online Course Development Stipend Fund to help incentivize faculty members to design high-quality online courses. EII will pay faculty members 5% of their base teaching salary for new online course developments and 2.5% of their base salary for re-designed online courses (based on a 3-credit course). - that fulfill multiple attributes a.k.a. “Double Dippers”
- Elective Courses that do not require prerequisites
- Exploratory Studies Program Courses
- Courses with high volumes of enrollment
- Courses required for a degree or major that is currently online or plans to become an online course
Course Development Stipend Request Process Overview
-
are reviewed weekly by the Stipend Request Committee. Proposal requests generally take 1-2 weeks to process.
-
After submission of your proposal form, a member of our Instructional Design team will follow up with you and schedule a meeting to discuss the following:
- Determine whether the course qualifies as a new development or re-design
- Determine the project timeline
- Discuss the expectations and standards required to earn a stipend; i.e., MUS Quality Standards, ADA Compliance, etc.
- Collect any additional information needed to process and implement your stipend request.
-
After the collaboration meeting is complete, our Director of Finance and Personnel will prepare a Course Development Agreement (CDA) outlining the scope of the project, timeline for completion, expectations and standards, payment information and other details.
Development will begin once the CDA has been signed by all parties.
-
After the Course Development Agreement is signed, you will be assigned an Instructional Designer who will work closely with you to design your course with attention to best practices in online teaching and learning, MUS Quality Standards, ADA compliance and more.
Please note, working regularly with an Instructional Designer is required for receiving the stipend.
-
Once your course development (or redesign) is fully completed, it will be reviewed by a member of the Instructional Design team approved for MUS Quality Standards and ADA Compliance. There may be some adjustments needed prior to final approval to release the stipend.
Please note, the stipend will only be released once all final adjustments are made, and your course has fully met the MUS Quality Standards and ADA requirements.
