The Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship at the 91次元 in Missoula, Montana offers a robust training experience based at UM's Clinical Psychology Center (CPC) and .
Postdocs have the opportunity to gain a rich and varied breadth of training opportunities in evidence-based treatments with pediatrics and adults pediatric populations, as well as assessment experience with pediatrics and adults, depending on the postdoc's specific training goals. There is also opportunity for more in-depth training with children and families (e.g., ACT-informed parent training, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, postpartum), eating disorder treatment (e.g., family-based therapy, CBT-E, CBT-10), and psychological assessment (e.g., ADHD, OCD, trauma).
Set in the vibrant mountain town of Missoula, Montana, this postdoctoral fellowship offers a one-of-a-kind training experience. You'll be plugged into a dynamic network that includes APA-accredited doctoral programs in Clinical and School Psychology at the 91次元 and a bustling downtown clinic serving a wide range of patients across the lifespan and clinical presentation. Missoula isn't just a healthcare hub for Western Montana, it's also an outdoor adventure-lover's paradise and a cultural hotspot. Postdocs get hands-on experience with rural and underserved populations, all while living in a place that makes it easy to balance meaningful work with a vibrant lifestyle. Missoula is an inviting university community and has something to offer everyone, whether it be hiking, climbing, mountain biking, live music (and a number of music festivals), skiing, river access, ultra running, fishing/hunting, museums, food/drink and camping.
While general oversight is provided by Dr. Sarah Potts (Training Director and Director of the Clinical Psychology Center), the postdocs benefit from a rich support system of dedicated faculty throughout the year. This collaborative training environment offers plenty of opportunities to consult and connect with faculty within the Psychology Department and across other disciplines at the 91次元. The fellowship includes two hours of weekly individual supervision, plus group supervision where the postdoc participates as a peer. Postdocs also step into a mentorship role by co-facilitating secondary supervision of advanced graduate students through a tiered model alongside a licensed clinical psychologist. There are additional opportunities to get involved in didactic teaching and training activities, both within the Psychology Department and through interdisciplinary partnerships—such as contributing to the UM-affiliated Family Medicine Residency of Western Montana. It’s a well-rounded, collaborative experience that supports both clinical growth and leadership development in a one-year (2000 hour) clinical program.
The 91次元 Postdoctoral Fellowship offers a training experience primarily based at the Clinical Psychology Center (CPC), a university-affiliated training clinic, with additional collaborations involving various community partners and divisions of the university.
Located in Missoula, Montana, the residency draws upon a rich training environment connected to APA-accredited doctoral training programs in clinical and school psychology at the 91次元 and an established clinic serving diverse populations. As a healthcare hub for Western Montana, Missoula is uniquely situated to provide trainees with experiences in working with rural and underserved populations. Further, Missoula is also a cultural and recreational mecca for a wide variety of educational, entertainment, and outdoor activities. The university community offers a highly desirable, progressive environment rich in career opportunities and unique in enhancing work/life balance and healthy lifestyles. Hiking, mountain biking, skiing, music festivals, whitewater rafting, and hunting/fishing abound.
Oversight of the training experience will be provided by Dr. Raurie Birch, the director of the CPC. During the postdoctoral residency, there will be ongoing development of opportunities to collaborate with university psychology department faculty and with local clinics providing integrated behavioral healthcare. Throughout their training, residents will have a minimum of two hours of face-to-face, individual, scheduled supervision per week. They will have the opportunity to participate in various didactic experiences within the psychology department and university at large, including with our affiliated family medicine residency program.
Our post-doctoral training program is structured as a one year (2000 hour) clinical program. An initial contract of one year will be offered, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year.
