Stop Campus Hazing Act
Policy
The University strictly prohibits hazing in all forms, regardless of the consent of those involved. Hazing is contrary to the values and mission of the University and is a violation of institutional policy and federal law under the Stop Campus Hazing Act (an amendment to the Clery Act). The Office of Community Standards coordinates the investigation of all allegations of hazing.
Reporting a Concern
Student groups and organizations are held to the same standards as individual students. Hazing and other misconduct should be reported using the .
Public Reports
Hazing Transparency Report
UM is required to publish a Hazing Transparency Report twice a year with information about student organizations that have been found responsible for Hazing violations. This report includes:
- summary of the incident
- the student organization involved
- whether drugs or alcohol were involved
- the date(s) of the incident and investigation
- any sanctions issued to the student organization
This report will be posted on this website every December and June, with the first report being posted in December 2025. If there are no violations to include, this will also be included in the report.
Annual Security Report (ASR)
UM is required to include statistics for hazing incidents that were reported to campus security authorities or local law enforcement (as defined by Stop Campus Hazing Act) in our annual security reports. The first ASR that will include Hazing data is the 2026 Annual Security Report.
