Fascinating Facts: Harvey Firestone gave Thomas Edison a laurel fig, which was planted in about 1912 in Fort Meyer, FL. It began spreading by seed in the 1970s after an accidental introduction of its species-specific wasp. It is now an invasive species in Florida.
