Guidelines for New Regalia
Academic Excellence and Engagement:
Eligibility may be granted to groups that require members to meet or exceed a certain GPA or academic achievement level, as well as those that engage in, research, creative scholarship or co-curricular activities beyond standard requirements. This includes honor societies, research groups arts organizations and others that promote academic excellence and intellectual growth. Examples would be the DHC, GLI, Honors and High Honors, etc.
Promoting Inclusive Prosperity:
Groups that represent students who have overcome significant personal, social, or economic challenges, as well as those that model civil dialogue, practice civic and democratic engagement, and represent the wide range of identities, belief systems, and cultural heritage on campus. This recognizes both the resilience of these students and their efforts to foster a sense of belonging and pride within the campus community. Examples would be TRiO, First- Gen, Branch Center, Lavender, AISS, BSU, etc.
Significant Contribution to Campus Through Leadership and Service:
Student organizations that have made meaningful contributions through volunteer work, community service, or activism may be eligible. This includes groups that have had a significant impact on campus culture, diversity, equity, and inclusion, or have provided essential support to their peers through leadership and service. Examples would be the ASUM, Advocates, ROTC, etc.
Eligibility may require sustained commitment to the organization over a significant period, demonstrating dedication and active involvement in the group’s mission and activities. Only officially recognized student organizations and identity groups that are in good standing with the university may be eligible for honor cords. This ensures that the groups have met the university's standards for conduct and contribution.
A formal application and review process may be established, where groups can apply for eligibility
by demonstrating how they meet the above criteria. Final approval should be granted by a
designated university committee or office.
These guidelines aim to ensure that the honor cords worn at commencement are symbols of significant achievement, contribution, and dedication to the university community. By clicking below, you acknowledge you understand the above guidelines, and will be taken to the petition for new regalia.
