Philosophers ask three foundational questions: What is the nature of the world? How do I know about it? What ought I to do? Philosophy both inherits from the great historical traditions of the past and investigates contemporary issues related to the arts, the environment, gender, law, medicine, politics, race, science, and technology. Philosophical investigation hones the mind into a sharp intellectual tool which can be deployed to better understand the world and our place in it. The Department of Philosophy offers a BA in philosophy, a BA in philosophy and law, a BA in environmental philosophy, an MA in environmental philosophy, a 5 year BA/MA degree in environmental philosophy, and a JD/MA in Environmental Philosophy. Other certificates and minors are offered as well.
