Personal Summary
Dr. Catalina de Onís (she/they) is a UM alum, who studied environmental, Latine, and gender communication studies as a master's student. She then continued her studies in environmental, climate, and energy justice communication at Indiana University, receiving her PhD in 2017. Dr. Onís has worked with undergraduate and graduate students at several universities, including as an Assistant Professor at Willamette University and at the University of Colorado Denver and as a core faculty member in the University of Oregon’s Clark Honors College. Most recently, she worked as the UM Director of Undergraduate Research and planned the 2025 UM Conference on Undergraduate Research. Dr. Onís enjoys co-creating interdisciplinary, multilingual, and multimodal projects, ranging from radio and podcast programming to documentary filmmaking. Her University of California Press book, won four national awards. Some of her favorite experiences have involved , including with student scholars! When not at UM, Dr. Onís works remotely as the Communications and Training Associate for . This non-profit organizes at the intersection of labor and environmental justice.
