Plan Ahead for 2026:
Starting January 1, 2026,
Curry Health Center’s medical clinic will begin billing health insurance for services. Currently, students pay the health services fee and out-of-pocket costs set by CHC, with no insurance billing — everyone pays the same amount for services. Beginning Spring 2026, students will need to either use insurance or pay out of pocket at rates determined by their coverage. Make sure you're prepared with a plan through a parent, employer, private provider, or AcademicBlue (SHIP). Please plan ahead and reach out to contactcurry@mso.umt.edu with questions.
If you need assistance with obtaining the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), contact us at studentinsurance@mso.umt.edu or 406-243-2844.
Currently, Curry Health Center’s services are supported through the health service fee (currently $303/semester), which provides on-campus students with access to health and wellbeing support across campus. This fee is not health insurance and does not cover the cost of individual services; it simply ensures that you have access to essential medical, mental health, dental, and wellness resources.
Starting January 1, 2026, Curry Health Center’s medical clinic (not counseling or dental) will begin billing insurance for services. This means:
-
You’ll still pay the mandatory health service fee to access comprehensive health and wellbeing support
-
But you’ll also need active health insurance coverage — or be prepared to pay out of pocket — to receive care from the medical clinic
This change supports our ability to continue providing high-quality, student-centered care while expanding access to sustainable wellness services.
To be ready for this change, make sure you're covered by one of the following:
- A parent/guardian’s plan
- An employer’s plan
- A private insurance plan
- Or AcademicBlue, UM’s student health insurance plan (also called SHIP)
This change won’t affect services until January 1, 2026, but it's important to be aware and watch for updates.
The Curry Health Center won’t turn any student away for care. But when it comes to billing:
- Currently, charges for students not enrolled in SHIP are added to your student account, and payment is your responsibility.
- If you're on a private, employer, or international plan, you may be able to file a self-claim to request reimbursement from the carrier.
Filing a Self-Claim (Before Jan. 1, 2026)
If you’re not on SHIP and want to get reimbursed for care you received at Curry Health Center:
- Visit your insurance provider’s website or contact their customer service because deadlines vary by carrier.
- You can also email us at studentinsurance@mso.umt.edu (from your UM email) with your 790# and the type of insurance you’re using for step-by-step instructions.
Medicaid
- Curry Health Center is not a Medicaid provider and cannot bill Medicaid services nor will they reimburse the client.
- If you’re eligible, consider applying for Montana Medicaid or the HIPP program for additional support. If you haven’t done so already, contact the Student Insurance Advocate to apply for the HIPP program.
Indian Health Services
We can submit claims to Indian Health Services on your behalf. Just let the receptionist know before your appointment.
