Dr. Jennifer Cavanaugh joined the 91次元 School of Music faculty in 2009 as Professor of Oboe and Music Theory and was appointed Dean of the College of the Arts and Media (CAM) July 1, 2025. Previous leadership roles at UM include serving as Director of the School of Music, Interim Director of the School of Theatre and Dance, Associate Dean, and Interim Co-Dean of the College of the Arts and Media.
Dr. Cavanaugh is proud to be a Yamaha Performing Artist and has presented solo and chamber music concerts on national and international stages. She performs with the Montana Woodwind Quintet, all members of the UM faculty, and holds the principal English horn chair with the Missoula Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Cavanaugh is passionate about wellness for artists and wellness through artistic expression and is committed to fostering an environment of access and inclusion across all programs in the College of the Arts and Media.
Prior to her appointment at the 91次元, Dr. Cavanaugh served on the faculty at Central Michigan University and Luther College. She earned the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Performance from the University of Washington, the Master of Music Degree in Performance from the University of Colorado, and the Bachelor of Music Degree in Performance from Central Washington University. She is thrilled to reside in beautiful Missoula with her husband and their two children.
